A Dubai desert safari is a half-day adventure in the red dune deserts about 45 minutes outside the city. It usually starts in the afternoon and runs until around midnight. Dune bashing (driving over the dunes in a 4x4), camel riding, sandboarding, henna painting, photos in traditional dress and an open-air BBQ dinner are all part of the standard programme. Premium packages also include quad biking, a VIP Land Cruiser and a private camp area.
Choose comfortable, light-coloured, breathable clothing. Trainers or sandals work well — heels or open-toe shoes will sink into the sand. Sunglasses and a hat are essential. A light cardigan helps when it cools down in the evening. Desert dust can stain white clothes, so keep that in mind. You won't need a swimsuit.

The ideal period is October to April. In these months the evening temperature is a comfortable 20-28°C. Between May and September daytime heat can exceed 45°C; if you go then, drink plenty of water and apply sunscreen. Fridays and Saturdays are busier — choose a weekday if you can.
A standard safari costs 180-250 AED/person and includes the BBQ dinner, camel riding and dune bashing. A premium safari is 350-450 AED/person, adding a VIP vehicle, quad bike and private camp. A morning safari (dune bashing + sandboarding, no dinner) is around 150-180 AED. A private/VIP safari starts from 800+ AED.

Dune bashing is not suitable for pregnant women, people with back/neck problems or children under 3 — a calmer desert tour is an alternative. Motion sickness can occur, so eat lightly beforehand. Soft drinks and water are usually included, but alcohol costs extra. Hotel pick-up and drop-off is included in standard packages — check the meeting point in advance.
